Doctor’s Orders

Doctor's Orders

Hands up if you look forward to visiting your good friend the Doctor? Thought not. If you have got your hand up then count yourself as extremely lucky—because you have to be in a tiny minority; I’d rather visit the dentist myself for a prolonged bout of tooth pulling. Doctors can be rude and unsympathetic, can’t they just?

But what if the eponymous House M.D. were to be a real doctor? Would you go and visit him for his rude yet practical advice giving style? Some might, but some might not, according to this forum post.

Now, this forum post did two things for me: it made me first glad that fans of this popular show are still aware that House is, in fact, not real—look at the message-boards and you will see that he’s become so much more than a character to so many people—and secondly, it made me angry that all those rude doctors out there were being encouraged to act exactly like House! Here’s a newsflash to all you doctors out there: being rude may be fun on TV, but in real life, when you’ve got stomach ache or other such nasty ailments, it’s not fun at all!

Now, I can’t imagine anyone would say the same thing about other professions; would all you women with skirts want to hire a rude builder, just because he did a good job of wolf-whistling at women like the builder on TV?

Even as I write this, I feel sick knowing that doctor’s out there are actually practicing to be like House! I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they start putting signs up any time soon: come and see me, I’m just as rude as House M.D.!
